[ When two awkward people meet, a chemical reaction occurs that mostly just results in silence. ]
Well, uh - it had been suggested to me, yeah. I've been trying to figure out what I should do since not long after I got here, and nothing has really seemed to be an obvious fit. I thought it would be worth it to at least reach out and see what the qualifications are.
Oh. [... two seconds more of awkward intra-network chemistry before he suddenly snaps into business, starts listing everything off bland and rapid-fire:] We take anyone. People usually learn most of the shit they need to before the next jump, not very hard. Got technology to take care of - ah, filtration systems, scrubbers, engineering. Got plants to take care of, harvest, animals too. If that's what you like.
No set hours as long as you get your work done. Don't light fires. Be careful about smoking. Don't fuck up the inventory.
[aka: no real rules either, as long as you get your work done]
Josias ["yo-sias" his accent is gr8] trains people who care about technology. I train everyone else. Can do both, though.
[This might be the most she's ever going to hear him say at once.]
[ It occurs to her that she knows exactly none of what goes into any of that, but she really does need to stop selling herself short. Even if the pressure of maintaining something as vital as oxygen makes her balk when she looks at in a big picture way, Claire knows she isn't stupid. ]
Well, I don't smoke, and I'm a pretty hard worker. I can't say I really know a lot about plants or technology, but I'm not an idiot, and I like animals? I'm just trying to find my place, I guess, and agriculture seems kind of underrepresented compared to security security or comms or something. I'd be willing to learn, if you'd be willing to teach me.
[ Also she can't get hurt so if there is some kind of machinery disaster that seems dangerous, she's your girl. ]
Mm, it's small. [Dude sounds a little bummed about it. They've lost a lot of people - he's lost a lot of people. But ANYWAY:] Most people don't know what the hell they're doing when they sign up. For Agriculture, I mean. Used to it.
[ Well this is awkward. Saying 'hey, I went to college!' just seems like a weak defense. ]
Admittedly, I don't know how threatening I could be if someone did need handling with security. I don't look very imposing, but I don't exactly bruise easily, and I'm a lot hardier than most people give short blondes credit for, if security is what you really need help with. I like animals, and I'd be willing to help there, too. Obviously if you need some time to think it over, or need a reference letter or something... well, I probably would have a hard time getting that, here, but I hope you'll at least think it over.
( voice ) it's fine I've been busy doing apps until my eyes have glazed over what r tags
[Ned this is what Nathan and Thranduil both meant when they said you shouldn't be a dick to people if you're a department head. Cue realization and some intense backpedaling.]
[ Her only response initially is a moment of surprised silence. She hadn't expected that kind of response so immediately. Maybe a second interview or something. That's what they prep you for, right? ]
Oh. I - okay. I can come whenever. Obviously it's not like I have much going on right now, right?
( voice ) gasp. you are a rebel you are a fighter
